Open Dm / Em - Crossnote

The Open Dm and Open Em are often called "crossnote". Why they are called so, I do not know.

To get to the Open Dm you tune the 6th, 3rd, 2nd and 1st string down one whole note, giving the tuning D-A-D-F-A-D. Open Em is basically the same, only one note higher. Instead of tunig the strings down, you tune 5th and 4th string one whole note up, and you have the tuning E-B-E-G-B-E.

I think of this as a Skip James tuning, because I first learned the tuning with two of his songs. I'm So Glad and Devil Got My Woman. But it is also the tuning (Em) that Albert Collins used exclusively. (It may actually be Open Albert King used a variation of this tuning, an Open Em with 6th string tuned down to C, giving CBEGBE. But Albert King kept his tuning secret, and there are different opinion on which tuning i actually used.
