Welcome to the guitar chord section

Main Main site

Welcome to the guitar chord section

In this section you will find guitar chord diagrams as well as chord theory. Chords are harmonic structures. It is not enough to know the lables and how to finger the chords. You should understand how chords are constructed and how they work, not just the finger positions.

It is convenient to have a reference where you can look up chord shapes, eihter in the form of a book or on the web. But you should be able to make your own. When you see something like D7#9 you should know the notes in the chord and where you find them on your guitar. Having said that, you do not have to do it all as long as you know how to do it.

Choose the chord type from the menu, and you will get an explanation of the chord type as well as links to the pages with the chords in all keys.

Some pages are just place holders that will be filled in some time in the future. When I have to make a reference to a chord I include the page where the chord should be, even if the page is empty. I prefer that over error messages saying that the page is not available (but there will be som error messages as well, as there are some "empty" references).

Unix is a case-sensitive operating sysem. Windows and the .asp based Windows server is not. As this section is developed under Windows, it will take some time before everything is cleaned up. In Windows E-maj7.gif and E-Maj7.gif are the same, in Unix they are not. So if a page is referring to E-maj7.gif and the file is named E-Maj7.gif, it will not be found. (I do not like case sensitive file systems ....)
