V-IV-I - Blues ending - Blues
The standard ending of a 12-bar blues. As you go one step down from V to IV before going to I, the result is a kind of plagal cadence. This V-IV-I is often called unwinding the V-chord, compared to the V(7)-I resolution.
It is - as the name indicates - a typical blues ending. I have not included standard 12, 16 or 24 bar blues tunes on the list. Go to the blues progressions for songs with these progressions that all have the V-IV-I ending.
From Alan W. Pollack's Notes on "Across The Universe":
The song contains a touch of the blues based on the use of the emblematic V->IV->I progression. Did you ever notice just how differently the latter progression affects compared to when the order of the first two chords is reversed?
