    Dave van Ronk was there in New York City when the folk music revival of the 1960s started, and throughout the era he remaind a legendary and influential figure. He was one of the first white "blues assimilators", and was considered part of the folk elite. He had a wide ranging musical interest, and played jazz and jug-band music, in addition to blues and folk. He died in 2002 at the age of 66.
